Surfing the Lone Star State: A Guide to Texas Surfing

Did you know that Texas has some of the best surfing in the country? We’re just kidding...but we do have surf. From Galveston to Port Aransas and everywhere in between, Texas is full of surf spots just waiting to be experienced.

Galveston Island
Galveston Island is one of the most popular beaches in Texas. The island gets its share of swells from both tropical storms and cold fronts, making it perfect for all levels of experience. It is a funky old town with a fun bar scene, so if the waves are flat you at least have something to fall back on.

Port Aransas
Port Aransas is another great spot for surfing in Texas, especially if you’re looking for a little more consistency. The area has a number of beaches nearby where you can find plenty of room to practice your skills or take a break from riding waves. Mostly sandy beach breaks and prettier water than its northeastern cousin (Galveston), make it a great place to get your surfing fix.

South Padre Island
South Padre Island is one of the most beautiful spots on the coast and an excellent place for surfing as well. With long stretches of white sand beaches and pretty clear waters, this island paradise is perfect for beginners as well as more advanced surfers looking to test their skills against what Texas has to offer. In addition to great waves, South Padre Island also offers plenty of restaurants and bars so you can relax after a long day on the water.

Texas has some truly unique surf spots that are perfect for everyone from novice surfers to experienced surfers. Whether you’re looking for big waves or mellow breaks, you might not find either. So grab your board and hit up one (or all!) Of these amazing places! You won't regret it!
